Notes from the Rector

We are very pleased you are visiting our website and would like to invite you and your family to visit St. Christopher.

Having been four separate congregations, the new St. Christopher has several exciting opportunities to serve God in our community. Supporting ministry to The Good Shepherd Day Care Center since 1976 and the St. James Resource Center for Enrichment are two examples. At the Resource Center for Enrichment, children receive help and encouragement, particularly during a weeklong annual Summer Day Camp. Another event is the annual Dog Wash and Pet Blessing with funds raised supporting outreach ministries, such as the South American Missionary Society. Other local community groups supported by St. Christopher are Covenant House, Manna Meal, Heart and Hand, and Dunbar Institute Samaritan House. The St. Christopher church facilities, with its beautiful grounds and gardens, are used on a regular basis by AA, Al Anon and Kairos WV.

One of the many blessings of four becoming one has been a rejuvenated choir. Now 20 plus members strong, the choir and music are a major element in our worship. Both classical organ and contemporary music, along with various instruments and choral arrangements, are woven into the liturgy and service.

Charleston is the capital city for “Almost Heaven” West Virginia and the metro area has a current population of approximately 300,000. Located on the Kanawha River, we have a variety of year round attractions, including a wonderful symphony, community theater groups, art galleries, FestivALL and Sternwheel Regatta. The Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia houses an art gallery, children’s museum, and the Electric Sky Theatre and planetarium. Hiking and biking can be enjoyed in our neighborhoods and local parks. Activities that are a short drive away include whitewater rafting, rock climbing and snow skiing. Charleston is a small home town community with big city amenities.
